01 / OVERVIEW

A protocol, not a platform.

Zcash inscriptions are arbitrary data committed directly to the Zcash chain. Fully onchain, censorship resistant, and provably unique. Zecscriptions is the open standard and the tooling around it.

We don't custody your tokens. We don't gatekeep your collections. Every inscription, deployment, and trade is a native Zcash transaction, verifiable by anyone running a node.

05 / FAQ

Frequently asked.

What is a Zcash inscription?

A Zcash inscription is arbitrary data (JSON, an image, a token definition) committed onchain inside a Zcash transaction. Once written, it's permanent and verifiable.

Do I need a special wallet?

Zecscriptions generates a self-custodial inscription wallet right in your browser when you click "Connect Wallet." It's a real Zcash transparent (t1) address that holds your minted tokens and any inscriptions you deploy. You fund each individual inscription from a separate wallet of your choice (Trust Wallet, Zashi, Ywallet, an exchange, anything that can send transparent ZEC).

Why shouldn't I spend ZEC from my inscription wallet using Trust Wallet?

ZRC-20 transfers are triggered by spending specific UTXOs at your address. Trust Wallet, Zashi, Ywallet and any other Zcash wallet pick UTXOs blindly when you send. If they accidentally consume a pending transfer-inscribe UTXO, the locked tokens are routed to whoever your tx pays out to — usually a stranger or an exchange — effectively burning them. Always move tokens and ZEC through Zecscriptions. Export the private key only for read-only balance verification in other wallets.

How is my inscription wallet stored, and is the private key safe?

Your wallet lives entirely in your browser. The private key is generated locally on your device and never touches our servers. Set a password during wallet creation and the key is encrypted at rest using modern, audited cryptography; the password lives only in memory and is forgotten when you close the tab. Skip the password and the key sits unencrypted on the device, which is fine for small balances but means anyone with access to this browser can spend the funds. Always back up your 12-word recovery phrase, and pick a password if your wallet is going to hold real value.

Is this an L2 or sidechain?

No. Zecscriptions is a protocol that lives entirely on Zcash mainnet. There is no separate chain, no bridge, no wrapped asset.

How are tokens transferred?

Transfers are themselves inscriptions. The Zecscriptions indexer reads the chain in order and updates balances accordingly. The state is fully reconstructable from Zcash blocks alone.

Can I use shielded transactions?

Not today. ZRC-20 inscriptions live in Zcash's transparent (t-addr) pool because the inscription envelope has to be readable by every indexer. Shielded inscription envelopes are an open research problem we may revisit — anything claiming this works today is overselling. Your privacy story for now is: fund the inscription wallet from a shielded address, do your inscription work, then sweep back to shielded.

What does it cost to deploy?

The cost of a single Zcash transaction, typically around 0.0001 ZEC. There are no protocol fees on deployment.

Zcash, finally with a marketplace.
